A Bugs eye view Diptych
Project Type
Digital
Date
2023
Two interactive photo stand-ins were created as permanent displays for the Natural Enemy Management Application (NEMA) Lab at the University of North Carolina at Asheville (UNCA). The NEMA Lab regularly hosts community engaged events with K-8 students, including the event "All About Bugs!". These portable photo stand-ins were created for the NEMA lab to serve as a visually dynamic tool to encourage participants to observe the trophic behavior of insects and foster community awareness of entomological themes.
The two paneled photo stand-ins both have a central section removed that allows for the participant's face to be photographed when on the opposite side of the display. Digital illustrations were printed onto an adhesive polypropylene and applied to ACM. The arms and antenna of the insects are detachable and rearrangeable.
This project was completed as part of my Community Engaged Scholar distinction and was presented at the UNCA Fall 2023 Undergraduate Research Symposium . A report and literary review was written about the purpose and process of the project and published in the UNCA Community Engaged Scholar Journal.
