Tangled Reef intends to engage the viewer through texture and movement. This piece introduces a physical and textural element to my portfolio that provides the participants with an opportunity to touch and feel the changes taking place throughout the seascape. Velcro was applied to the backs of both sea stars and the fish in order to allow for the viewer to “place” the different organisms within the area of the reef.
This hanging fiber sculpture took several months to create, aiming to offer a tactile and interactive journey through the sea where participants can interactively "place" elements within the reef's scene. Just like a reef's intricate ecosystem, each crochet element is a culmination of individual stitches working together to form a harmonious and mesmerizing seascape.
